Wired Editor says scientific method is obsolete. Oh really?

The Internet has caused a lot of trouble. Now, according to Wired Magazine’s editor, today’s wealth of data has made the scientific method unnecessary. Others counter, saying the Internet is not the entire world, contrary to what Anderson may believe.

Mathematical methods of approximation do in fact aid science–look at the progress made with study the human genome, but I would assume that such mathematical methods would be one process in the scientific method rather than a replacement….

Study: Bartenders Are Too Much Fun

A new study shows that alcoholic drinks served in bars and restaurants are often larger than the standard size and contain more alcohol.

Nationwide, there is a big effort to take the mystery out of alcoholic drinks. Health groups have been battling the federal government over a proposal to label packaged alcohol products with information on nutrition and alcohol content, similar to…

Holland 4-1 France - France near the exit door

Euro 2008 is Holland’s playground. Their football gleams with confidence and, even when France rallied, a third goal was rustled up at once. With this victory Holland have won Group C, with Sweden possible opponents in the quarter-final. Wesley Sneijder’s lovely 20-yard shot in stoppage-time was a flourish to round off the night. Considering the im

Holland would not allow that here and when France and Italy restage the World Cup final on Tuesday the prize they strive for will be humble survival. Both would be eliminated if Van Basten's squad took it easy and were beaten by Romania….

Seth Rogen Smokes Weed Live On The MTV Movie Awards?

It’s not clear whether actor Seth Rogen is smoking weed in this appearance at MTV’s movie awards, which were televised live. But there are three thing you can say for sure. One, the camera pulls back, as though the network is unprepared (or wants us all to think it’s unprepared) for the blunt-smoking.

It's not clear whether actor Seth Rogen is smoking marijuana, or something else, in this appearance at MTV's movie awards, which were televised live. But there are three thing you can say for sure. One, the camera pulls back, as though the…

Dubai Palm Jumeirah: the Eighth Blunder of the World?

Dubai’s sheikhs have claimed it is “the eighth wonder of the world”, and seen from space the tree-shaped sand and rock formation of the Palm Jumeirah looks exactly that. But after the hype and the novelty of living four miles out to sea has faded, that claim is starting to look shaky. It seems there is a little trouble in paradise.

Raffaele Cannas, 47, a British property consultant, was one of the first to pick up his keys in late 2006 and found himself squeezing a couple of England players into his Mini after they'd asked to see how he had decorated his apartment….

It’s the end of the car as we know it. And I feel fine.

The world is running out of oil. Global warming threatens our very existence. The gasoline-fed V-8 engine will soon go the way of the dodo bird. In fact, cars as we know them are doomed. Who knows how bad it could get? Someday there might even be another Rambo sequel.

Bull hockey. I don't know whether the future means hybrids, advanced diesels, fuel cells, electrics, a combination of all four, or some other system we haven't even thought of yet-but I don't need to know. All I need to know is…

Google Confuses Racists

[From third item on page] Much embarrassment at the Green Arrow Forum, the bloggers’ website that supports the BNP. At the top of the site is an advertisement for singlemuslim.com, the UK’s leading Muslim marriage service. This has caused much consternation to the perplexed BNP bloggers.

Council uses criminal law to spy on school place applicants

A council yesterday admitted using laws designed to track serious criminals to spy on a family for nearly three weeks to find out if they were lying about living in a school catchment area.
The surveillance took place because the family put their house up for sale but lived in it until the end of January to ensure their daughter would qualify…

The mother, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I have had nothing to say how long the information will be kept for, who holds it and what the implications of having an RIPA order executed against you are. I'm absolutely incensed. To be…
